Résumé : | The emergence of greater awareness of the environment, the application of more and new technical knowledge and the use of traditional construction methods, such as orientation towards the sun, are motivating a growing number of owners to have ecological houses built on a small scale. These small eco-houses constitute a first step towards a culture of sustainable and responsible construction. This is not solely based on the use of natural materials, which save energy and contain environmental contamination, but also on the creation of small oases that offer their inhabitants a high quality of life. There are numerous examples which show how pleasant ecological houses can be from an architectural viewpoint, irrespective of the material used in construction, be it stone, wood or brick. The great variety of ecological materials now available allows architects to select their own particular approach. This book presents a selection of small eco-houses built in accordance with what is feasible in architecture today. Though they were considered architectural anomalies for some time, these houses, built in a manner that is respectful of the environment, have actually laid the foundations of tomorrow's construction. |
